on loneliness and chains that bind

Despite having friends that care

despite having family that loves

There is still a loneliness inside

I do not understand why

I do not understand what lacks

Why nothing suffices

why nothing gives purpose

Watching life just pass by

like a breeze that rustles through

the leaves of high trees on an autumn day

Will I go gentle into that good night?

Will I face the end with a purpose accomplished?

No drink eases the bitterness inside

No smoke will make this illusion pass

No amount of  introspection gives any respite

To think so much – is it a blessing or a curse?

The call of the wild strongly draws

But the comforts of society shackles one

The weights the hold the body down

weigh heavier on the soul of one

The need to be loved

the need to be accepted

the need to feel special

as if the universe revolves around one

To be lost within is that the answer

but the stealthiest wolf comes out for hunger

Lust that cant be quenched

Greed that cannot be satisfied

The futility of human life

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night. – Dylan Thomas
